Visitors from South Africa

We were fortunate enough to have Red Brangus Breeders from South Africa visit the ranch immediately after the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The Victoria Advocate carried an article about this event and it is included herein. Our visitors appraised the mature cow herd and said they were the thickest they had seen during their visit to the US. They also said our young bulls were the best they had seen.

Thomas Hills of Ivan Ranch

Phil Thomas and his family of Fort Worth visited the ranch in early March has purchased two herd sire bulls to upgrade his registered operations. He purchased BCC JR Pinnacle 37M, a half brother to the 2003 National Reserve Champion Bull BCC JR Sequoia Jack 37K.  He also purchased BCC JR 008M2 a long, high performing bull sired by our ¼ blood Mr. High Star 330/4. We delivered the bulls to his ranch and looked over his cattle and operation. He runs a first class herd of cattle on improved pastures north of Breckenridge, Texas. I would encourage commercial cattlemen in the area to see him for their bulls and replacement heifers.

Lissa Buffaloe Shows Her First Heifer

Lissa, our daughter, purchased a heifer at the R2 sale in the fall of 2003 and prepped her for the major shows. She showed Miss R2 193N, a Leachman Marias Daughter. Leachman Marias was the highest marbling bull in the Red Angus Breed.  At the Houston show, in early March, she placed 3rd in her class out of 25 heifers. In San Antonio, she was 2nd in her class out of 20 heifers. We have included her show picture herein. When our visitors from South Africa saw this heifer, they said she was great.

Fireball wins BIG!!! (click on photo to enlarge)

Joyce Lenhart's son, Craig, purchased a show steer from Buffaloe Cattle Co. and named him Fireball. Fireball won Grand Champion in the Calhoun County Show on Wednesday October 15, 2003. The steer was a son of Powerman and a Triangle K (Kmiec) Cow 81/7 that we purchased in the Genetic Edge Sale in 1999. Congratulations are in order for this young man for his contribution to promoting Red Brangus cattle by showing and winning. The Red Brangus steer was the second American Breed to win the Calhoun Show in 50 years.

Unfortunately the Victoria Advocate ran a headline at the top of the front page Friday October 17 noting that an Angus won the Calhoun Show and the written article said the steer was a Red Angus. Jim Kolle, Victoria's leading Red Angus breeder smiled all the way to the bank. My mother, Wilma straightened out the Advocate and they later printed a correction. Craig’s contribution was one small step in getting the world to realize how great Red Brangus cattle are. Below are pictures of Craig and Fireball.

Powerman Sons Mature

The spring of 2003 brought the first batch of bulls sired by Powerman to service age. There were 12 young bulls in the 2001 and 2002 calf crop hat were retained for sales as Registered Herd Sires and Commercial Bulls.

BCC BNB Cochise 7L was one of these bulls and we all knew he was something special when he was very young. He was deep and thick with a massive hindquarter. One of the best I have seen in any breed. When we posted his pictures on the website we got an immediate call from Guillermo Zambrano of Monterrey, Mexico. Guillermo was interested in this bull to run on his Cattle acquired from Cox Excalibur and other IRBBA cattle that he has developed himself. We struck up a deal and Cochise is in Mexico on a permanent vacation at Guillermo’s Ranch, Hacienda la Escondida at Linares, Nuevo Leon.

On a hot day in July, Gary Markham of Rancho de Trabajo at Manvel, Texas, stopped by our ranch and we looked at the herd and he selected a special bull named BCC JR Gene 81M. I named after my father Gene Buffaloe, as I knew he was going to be good. This young bull is dark red, with a premium profile and heavy muscling. He was the best Powerman son in the 2002 crop. He is now vacationing with several heifers at Gary’s ranch and enjoying the lush grass from this summer’s rains. I made a deal with Gary to let me collect semen from this bull, as he is a perfect match for Strawberry our 1999 HLSR Grand Champion.

Three other excellent Powerman sons and a Cardinal son are consigned to the CX Advantage Sale in Weimar Texas on October 18, 2003. Don’t miss an opportunity to take one of the bulls home to your ranch for a little vacation time with your cows.

Strawberry Daughter Sells in CX Advantage Sale

We are offering a Strawberry daughter in the CX Advantage Sale on October 18, 2003 in Weimar, Texas. This is the first Strawberry daughter offered to the public by any of the owners of Strawberry. She sells open and you will have an opportunity to take home Champion genetics that won’t be available again any time soon. Don’t miss your chance to upgrade your entire herd with this female.

Powerman Daughters Bred and Consigned to CX Advantage Sale

We decided that our Calf Champion Chief Cardinal son, BCC JR Lil’ Chief was an excellent choice to breed our Powerman heifers. In June, we exposed 12 heifers to him. Some belong to our customers as they also thought this was an excellent combination of genetics. There are 3 Powerman daughters from this group that will be sold at the CX Advantage Sale in Weimar, Texas on October 18, 2003. Don’t miss this opportunity to take home Champion genetics on the top and bottom side of the pedigrees. The calves from this mating will be tremendous.

We were blessed with the birth of a bull and a heifer from embryo transfers from our 1999 Houston Livestock Show Grand Champion Heifer that is co-owned with Vineyard Cattle Company of Wharton, Texas and Triangle K Farms of Chappell Hill, Texas

SPRING CALVES ARRIVE!!!

Most of our Females were bred to CX Powerman 307H, our 2001 Grand Champion Bull. His calves are great. We have several calves on the ground sired by BCC JR Nucleus 307/H, the 2001 San Antonio Exposition Senior Reserve Champion. We also have calves sired by Mr. High Star X19/E, the 1998 Houston Show Reserve Champion and our ¼ Blood Bull Mr. High Star 330/4.  Our other Grand Champion Bull, CX Chief Cardinal 847/G, bred several females and they are due in September.

EXCELLENT ½ BLOODS ARRIVE!!!

In the Fall of 2000, we negotiated to purchase the best of Sureway Farms ½ blood females. These females were bred to Sureway’s 062, a ¼ blood bull and have 3/8 x 5/8 calves on their side. We re-bred these females to Mr. HS 330/4 our ¼ blood bull co-owned with K&K Farms of Schulenburg, Texas.

The calves produced by these cows are outstanding and are the product of decades of Sureway’s breeding program. Don’t miss an opportunity to purchase one of these young bulls or heifers.

CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY AND GENETICS!!!

Buffaloe Cattle Co. has acquired an embryo interest in the 2002 Grand Champion Female from San Antonio Livestock Exposition. We expect to flush her soon and have Calves in the Spring of 2003.

NEW BREEDERS!!!

This Spring, Keith and Sherry Byrom visited the ranch and purchased one of our 2001 Show Bulls, a herdsire, BCC JR Rojo Cid 6/J and a BCC JR Red Squah 14/K. Keith and Sherry are from Atascosa, Texas and are starting up their International Red Brangus Herd with excellent 3/8 x 5/8 genetics from Buffaloe Cattle Company. BCC JR Rojo Cid 6/J is an X 19/E son that has tremendous muscle. He was first in his Class in the 2001 Houston Livestock show and also the San Antonio Livestock Exposition. We are excited about the potential he has for Spring 2002 calves and in the 20002 Show Ring. BCC JR Red Squah 14/K is a clean, feminine daughter of Chief Cardinal 847/G.  She showed well in the 2001 San Antonio Exposition and was 3rd in her class. She was also 4th in her class in very large class of heifers in Houston in 2001. This heifer has excellent confirmation and will do well in the 2002 shows.

Tim Tadlock of Cypress, Texas purchased a young, potential herdsire, BCC JR Rojo Chief 30/K. He is a Chief Cardinal Son that is well developed for his age and promises to make an excellent bull. Tim also selected a cow bred   to Powerman 307H start his herd. She delivered a clean, muscular bull calf that has show potential.

John Liechty has selected two bred heifers and a bred cow with a calf on her side to start his herd. These females are bred to Powerman and will be delivered in August to his ranch in the Conroe area. The calf on the side of the cow is a Powerman daughter and has show potential.
